January 1945	The plan of founding Kagoshima Prefectural Technical College was authorized.
April 1945	Kagoshima Prefectural Technical College was established. Department of Mechanics Department of Electricity Department of Architecture Department of Chemical Industry
February 1949	Kagoshima Prefectural Technical College was renamed Faculty of Engineering, Kagoshima Prefectural University. Department of Mechanical Engineering Department of Electrical Engineering Department of Architecture Department of Applied Chemistry
July 1955	Kagoshima Prefectural University was transferred to the care of the nation and changed name to Kagoshima University.
July 1958	Removal from Ishiki campus to Arata campus was completed.
April 1963	Department of Mechanical Engineering II was established.
April 1964	Department of Chemical Engineering was established.
April 1965	Department of Engineering Fundamentals was established.
April 1967	Department of Electronics Engineering was established.

April 1971	Electronics Engineering Course was established in Master’s Program.
April 1973	Department of Ocean Civil Development Engineering was established.
April 1980	Ocean Civil Engineering Course was established in Master’s Program.
April 1989	Department of Information and Computer Science was established.
April 1991	Department of Applied Chemistry and Department of Chemical Engineering were reorganized and merged into Department of Applied Chemistry and Chemical Engineering.
April 1992	Department of Mechanical Engineering and Department of Mechanical Engineering II were reorganized and merged into Department of Mechanical Engineering. Department of Electrical Engineering and Department of Electronics Engineering were reorganized and merged into Department of Electrical and Electronics Engineering. Department of Ocean Civil Development Engineering was reorganized and renamed Department of Ocean Civil Engineering. Department of Architecture was reorganized and renamed Department of …… Department of Engineering Fundamentals was abolished.
April 1994	Graduate School of Engineering (Master’s Program) was reorganized Graduate School of Engineering (Lower Division of Doctoral Degree Program). Graduate School of Engineering (Upper Division of Doctoral Degree Program) was established. Material Science and Production Engineering System Information Engineering
November 1994	The completion of Inamori Hall was celebrated.
April 1995	The 50th anniversary of founding of Faculty of Engineering was celebrated.
April 1997	Department of Bioengineering was established. Department of Information and Computer Science was reorganized. College of Liberal Arts was abolished.
April 1997	Admission Capacity of Graduate School of Engineering (Lower Division of Doctoral Degree Program) was increased by 50
April 1998	Graduate School of Science and Engineering was founded by merging Graduate School of Science and Graduate School of Engineering.
April 2009	Department of Applied Chemistry and Chemical Engineering and Department of Information and Computer Science and Department of Bioengineering were reorganized and merged into Department of Chemical Engineering and Department of Information Science and Biomedical Engineering and Department of Chemistry and Biotechnology.
April 2020	Department of Mechanical Engineering and Department of Electrical and Electronics Engineering and Department of Advanced Engineering and Department of Architecture and Architectural Engineering and Department of Ocean Civil Engineering and Department of Chemical Engineering and Department of Chemistry and Biotechnology and Department of Information Science and Biomedical Engineering were reorganized and merged into Department of Advanced Engineering and Department of Architecture and Architectural Engineering.
